What is PAYE?

Pay As You Earn (PAYE) is a tax deducted from employees’ income by employers on behalf of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). It is charged on all income — cash or in-kind — using a progressive monthly tax rate.

SSNIT & Pensions

Employees contribute 5.5% of basic salary to SSNIT (Tier 1), while employers contribute 13%. Tier 2 is 5% from employer. Voluntary Tier 3 contributions up to 16.5% of basic are tax-deductible.

Overtime & Bonus

Overtime up to 50% of monthly basic is taxed at 5%; excess at 10%. Bonuses up to 15% of annual basic are taxed at 5%, with excess taxed at the progressive PAYE rate.
